THE BODY PARAGRAPH

Each body paragraph must begin with a proper topic sentence that indicates (1) the literary element that will be dealt with in that paragraph as well as (2) the connection between that element and your thesis, i.e. the thematic idea of the story. It should also include a transition that makes a logical link with the previous paragraph.

Make sure that there are adequate transitional words or full transitional sentences between the points within the paragraph.

Each analytical point should be supported by a very specific literal detail from the story. That is, do not write generally about the story and the character in other to make a point: present one specific piece of evidence, and then analyze it to show how it stands as proof of the author’s use of the literary element discussed in the paragraph. In total, you should analyze 2 or 3 details in each paragraph. Finally, make sure to end each paragraph with a proper concluding sentence.
